In the enchanting setting of Hawaii’s sun-kissed shores, competitors and fans come together to witness a vibrant opening ceremony. Traditional Hawaiian music fills the air as graceful hula dancers perform, showcasing the rich cultural heritage of the islands. The iconic statue of Duke Kahanamoku is adorned with fresh flower lei, symbolizing unity and respect. This festive spectacle sets the stage for the thrilling Oceanfest ahead, capturing the essence of Hawaiian culture and fostering a sense of camaraderie among all in attendance.  4:45 Procession from Outrigger Waikiki to Statue (public welcome) 5pm Opening Ceremony at the Statue.

Tandem surfing is an unique and visually impressive discipline of surfing, and has a rich history spanning over a century. Legendary Duke Kahanamoku is widely recognized as the father of modern tandem surfing, initially taking female tourists for rides on his board. This practice evolved into a skilled sport involving daring acrobatics on waves. The sport continues to challenge athletes and push the boundaries of what’s possible on a surfboard. The special surfing event aims to inspire and promote surfing among young people in Hawaii, while also paying tribute to the legacy of Duke Kahanamoku and his spirit of Aloha. It will be an exciting opportunity for many participants to make their debut in competitive surfing. Each registered participant will receive a special Duke Kahanamoku OceanFest commemorative t-shirt, and the finalists will have the chance to win awards and prizes.

Keiki aged 3 to 9 will discover the world of surfing and immerse themselves in the atmosphere of a professional-style surf event.
